Aggressive Patience

This week, things are finally falling into place. We kicked off a full repainting of the weight room—a massive facelift that’s been on my to-do list since 2021. We’re also finally rolling out GPS units for football, something I’ve been working toward since stepping into the Head Strength Coach role. These projects didn’t happen overnight. They didn’t happen in a month. They took years. It’s easy to get frustrated when you’re working toward something that doesn’t move as fast as you want. It’s easy to get emotional. It’s easy to point fingers. What’s hard is continuing to show up when the work feels invisible. What’s hard is navigating the politics of administration when all you want to do is build. What’s hard is looking around at a facility or a program and knowing how much better it could be—even when you’re the only one who sees the full vision. But that’s where aggressive patience comes in. Aggressive patience means you don’t sit back and wait. You don’t coast. You don’t play the “someday” game. You keep having the conversations. You keep pushing for what’s needed. You keep giving your best, even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. Because sooner or later, the door opens. And when it does, you’re ready—not just to walk through it, but to own it. As Ronald Reagan once said: “When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat.” Keep the Fire Burning, Leech P.S. - If you work with Catapult GPS units and want to give me your best tips, please reply to this email! I'd appreciate hearing from coaches who know what they're doing with them.
