Don’t Call the Cops on Me

I took my son to the playground recently. We rolled up on a beautiful Friday afternoon, perfect weather, no one around—and a sign on the gate: “Temporarily Closed.” Now I don’t know who decided to lock up a city playground on a day like that, but we weren’t about to let a fence stop us. So we hopped it. And we had a blast. That moment stuck with me for the rest of the day. We didn’t wait for permission to do something that mattered. And that’s the lesson this week: Too often, we’re standing outside the metaphorical gate—waiting for someone to give us permission to take the next step. We rationalize. We hesitate. We run through what people might think or say. We poke holes in our own logic until the opportunity slips away. But here’s the truth—no one’s coming to give you permission. You don’t need approval to chase what fires you up. You don’t need a green light to try something new. You just need the courage to hop the fence. Reach out to that coach you’ve always wanted to connect with. Start that side hustle that’s been dying to become a business. Take on the challenge that keeps calling your name. Stop waiting.
