Not every training session is a winner. We had one session this week that just felt flat. With Spring Break around the corner, you could feel that the kids had their bags packed and we're mentally on their way to the beach, while they were physically in the weight room. I can't say that I blame them, we've been crushing them hard over the past 7 weeks. I'm sure a nice week long vacation feels good front of mind. What we talked about was a lesson I stole from PJ Fleck when he was at Western Michigan (You can see the original video here ). Anyone can work hard. Anyone can show up, check the boxes, and get tired. Heart work is different. Heart work is working hard with passion. With pride. With a purpose bigger than yourself. That day, our guys showed up. They did their high pulls, heavy squats, and accessories. But were they truly invested in the work? Were they attacking it with urgency or just getting through it? Next time you catch yourself (or your team) going through the motions, ask yourself: "Is this Hard Work? Or is this Heart Work?" You're capable of more. Demand it from yourself daily.
