Pass it Down

I lost my dad when I was 25. It hurt then, but no one prepared me for how much harder it would hit at 31. Becoming a father myself opened up a lot of old pain, but it also brought a level of clarity that had been missing for six years. My dad passed down a love of football and fitness. I remember staring at the Joe Weider Home Gym in our basement, wondering when I’d finally be able to use it. When I was a junior in high school, he volunteered to coach the offensive line, even though he couldn’t stand the head coach. And when I played in college, he filmed every game he went to, even after I told him, "Dad, we have our own filmers, and it’s all online." Most of us didn’t get into coaching for the money. We got into it because someone passed down the love of football or fitness to us. Now, as a coach, it’s my job to do the same. To foster that same love in the next generation. It doesn’t matter if it’s your own kids or the kids you coach. What matters is passing it down. Teaching them what the game gave you. Giving them something to carry forward long after you’re gone. That’s the least we can do for those who did it for us. Keep the Fire Burning, Leech Do you struggle with the Offseason Field Work side of training? Accel, Max V, COD, Plyos, Condo?
