New Years Commitment

Every year, I take some time to reflect on the past 12 months and identify the areas of my life I want to improve in the upcoming year. I’m not big on resolutions, but I do believe in setting clear actions I want to take and commitments I want to uphold. One area I struggled with last year was spending time with friends. If you’re a Strength Coach or a Football Coach, chances are you know this struggle all too well. In our line of work, friendships often get stretched thin by distance and busy schedules. The people you meet along the way—those who become your closest friends—often move on. Better jobs, new opportunities, different paths. Maybe you’ve done the same. For many of us, outside of family and the people we work with, there aren’t many chances to reconnect with old friends. Conferences and conventions might be the only time we cross paths, and even then, it’s usually brief. But here’s what I’ve learned: you will never regret making the effort to reunite with the boys in person. This year, two of my former assistants—who’ve since become two of my closest friends— and I made the effort to start the new year together. We took the kids to the aquarium, and my kid hasn’t stopped barking like a sea lion since. As much as we keep up in the group chat, spending even half a day together in person was better than any conference catch- up we’ve had in years.

One year we'll get all the kids to look lol It was a reminder of how important it is to make time for the people who matter, even when life gets hectic. Friendships are like any other relationship—they need effort to grow and thrive. So, here’s my challenge to you for 2025: Plan the trip. Make the time. Call the friends you’ve been meaning to catch up with and set a date. Reconnect in person, share some laughs, and create new memories. I promise you—it’s worth it. Life moves fast, and we’re all guilty of letting time slip by. But you’ll never regret prioritizing the people who’ve been part of your journey. Keep the Fire Burning. Leech
