Kingston, R.I. · December 28, 2024 · One coach to another
From the first Saturday in January to the last in 2024, we’ve made it one full year of transforming my thoughts and experiences into insights that I hope have brought you value. All the way back in Issue #1, I shared my WHY for starting these Leech Letters. My goal was simple: to build a habit of journaling so that my son would have a different way to connect with me when he gets older. Writing these letters has been as much about capturing lessons for him as it has been about sharing them with all of you. I’m excited to bundle this first volume together and put it on the bookshelf—waiting for the day when he’s ready to pick it up and read. But what I didn’t expect was the impact these Letters would have outside my own household. Over the past year, I’ve heard from coaches at all levels, telling me how they’ve used my drills, ideas, and resources to elevate their programs. I’ve heard from friends in the field who’ve found renewed motivation to keep going in a profession that is known for grinding people down. And I’ve heard from people inspired to take action in their own lives—whether through training, finishing grad school, or just committing to being better. These connections remind me that writing is more than just putting words on a page—it’s a way to spark change, to connect, and to contribute. If you’ve ever thought about writing, take the leap and start. Write for your athletes. Write for your family. Write for yourself. It doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to be honest. I promise you’ll have at least one reader in me. One year can change your life. Someone asked me recently: “What will you do now that you’ve hit one full year of Leech Letters?” My answer was simple: I’ll Keep the Fire Burning. Leech
