Be The One They Call

My old man was a mechanical engineer for the post office. He fixed those massive football field long sorting machines all across the state of RI. Engines. Motors. Anything with moving parts. He could fix it. If something broke in the neighborhood, he didn’t call anyone. He popped the hood and handled it. And last weekend, while staring at my busted lawn mower, wishing more than anything I could call him. Just to hear, “Bring it over. I’ll take a look.” But I can’t call him anymore. So I sat there. Frustrated. Pulling. Clicking. Watching YouTube videos in the heat. Trying to follow along. Trying not to cause a scene in the backyard. Eventually, It fired up. (It was a gunked up float pin for my fellow DIY guys out there). Not because I knew what I was doing. But because I kept showing up.

Because deep down, I want to be that man. For my kids. For my family. For my athletes. The one who shows up when stuff breaks. The one who knows how to handle it. The one they call when it matters. So let me ask you: Are you becoming that person? When your athlete doesn’t know where to turn…do they call you? When your family needs strength…can they lean on you? Or are you still wishing someone else would figure it out? Start now. Start showing up. Start becoming the one they call. Keep the fire burning, Leech
