Springball Training

Football is back for us here at URI! As much as I love my undivided time training the team, it's always great to see them back out on the field playing the best game on Earth. I figured this week I share some thoughts on Spring Training and what we're putting a focus on this year. We alternate days during Springball. Practice T-Th-Sa, Lift and Meetings M-W-F. We try to keep our training as similar to our offseason programming as possible, while adjusting from 5 days of training down to 3. One change we've made is from 3 Total Body days to a Total/Lower/Upper split. While I love the idea of total body every day with a High - Medium - and Low intensity day, I think the T-L-U split is going to be great for us. There's a 1000 different ways to get the job done. The other priority for us this Spring is to keep elements of Speed Work in the weekly program. In years past I've said that practice covers that base, but I've changed my mind on that. We incorporate low volume accels, wickets, and lateral COD work at the start of each training session. Have we had to sacrifice some time for accessories on the back end to make sure all of this gets done? Yes. In my eyes though, it's worth the trade.
