We're always trying to find new drills to achieve our offseason goals, while fitting into the system we already have in place. This past week, we put in a Scores and Stops style drill that was an instant favorite between coaches and players. This drill comes from Michael Gragg down at Harding University. It's no wonder they've been at the Top of D2 for years now, Coach Gragg runs an amazing S&C program. 0:00 / 0:18 This drill reminds me of the old Goal Line Stand Drill you used to see schools like LSU do during preseason. In this drill, Defense can't move until Offense moves. Offense has to go around the milk crates (or whatever you have) and score, while staying in bounds. Offense decides if he wants to go left or right. Defense has to try to get a two hand tag on the frontside of the ball carrier's hip. Anything less than that isn't a good enough position to make a goal line tackle.
If you're a coach who does Mat Drill type stations with kids, consider subbing one out for a drill like this. You can get a good number of reps in quickly, you can coach and teach football specific movements, and the kids give you great effort while competing hard. Much better than a lot of drills I see out there. If you've already purchased the Scores and Stops Course, this drill has automatically been added to the Bonus Section and the Youtube library.
