7 Day Water Fast

This past week, I completed my Misogi for 2024. If you’re not familiar with the term, a Misogi is a self-imposed challenge guided by just two rules: 1. Don’t die. 2. You should have a 50% chance of succeeding. The idea behind a Misogi is powerful: by committing to a daunting challenge, you give focus and intention to every day leading up to it, and wisdom and reflection to every day after. A Misogi isn’t just about the physical act—it’s about the transformation that happens in the process. Some people might choose to run a marathon, complete a grueling triathlon like my friend, or move a literal ton of weight a mile away. For my Misogi, I chose to complete a 7-day water fast. I’ll be the first to admit—it was a LONG 7 days of just water, coffee, and electrolytes. It tested my limits in ways I didn’t anticipate, and it’s definitely not something I’d recommend for everyone. But the inner lessons I gathered along the way will stick with me for a lifetime. I learned that discomfort is a gateway to growth. That clarity often comes when the noise is stripped away. That when you’re hungry, tired, and your body is screaming at you to quit, there’s a reservoir of strength inside you that most of us never tap into. Completing my Misogi gave me a deeper sense of resilience and sharpened my focus for everything else in my life. And that’s the point: a Misogi challenges you to step into the unknown, to face the part of yourself that doubts whether you can make it through—and to prove that you can. My challenge to you for 2025: Put a Misogi on your calendar. It doesn’t have to be a 7-day water fast (trust me). But pick something that seems just out of reach, something that pushes you to your limit. Commit to it, let it guide your preparation, and then let it shape who you become.

The year is winding down, but there’s still time to plan your next big challenge. Only a few weeks left—Keep the Fire Burning. Leech Looking for new agility drills for your offseason program?
