My Thoughts on Conditioning Tests

This week on social media, I shared insights about the Football Conditioning Test I've been using throughout 2024, developed by Keir Wenham-Flatt, also known as The Rugby Guy. As an advocate for the Sprint-Based Football approach, this test perfectly aligns with my values. To truly improve, you need to sprint at your maximum capacity! Logging countless 300s and Gassers won’t help you with this one. What I love most about this test is its objectivity. It allows me to tell every athlete and coach exactly where everyone stands. It takes the subjectiveness out of football and focuses purely on performance. There's no ambiguity—just clear, measurable results. But let’s be clear: this test isn’t a one-time gut check. If you’re only using it to see who will try hard and who won’t, you’re missing the point entirely. Anyone can make someone tired; coaches are here to make athletes better! For those familiar with the Tribe Test, I’ve attached our standards to this email for comparison. Our standards are challenging but fair.
