Kingston, R.I. · January 10, 2026 · One coach to another
Right now, we are deep in the trenches of the transfer portal window.
It's messy. Players are flying all around the country. Rosters are flipping. But amidst the chaos of recruiting visits and facility tours, we are really just trying to figure out the answer to one single question.
How much do you actually love football?
That is the filter. That is the only metric that matters.
If the answer is "a lot," the rest takes care of itself.
If you love football, you don’t skip the weight room. You don't complain about the early mornings. You don't whine about what gear we have or don't have.
You do the work because the work is part of the game.
You embrace the film study. You attack the tedious details. You do the things that other players at other levels refuse to do. Why? Because you love the process as much as the prize.
If you don't love it, every rep feels like a punishment. If you do love it, every rep is an opportunity.
But the evaluation is a two-way street. Recruits are trying to figure that out about us.
As a staff, how much do we love football? Are we just satisfied with the job? Or are we trying to get better ourselves?
Players have a sixth sense for fraud. They know if a coach is mailing it in. They don't want to come to a place that is complacent. They don't want to play for a staff that is hanging onto the past.
If we want them to run through a wall for us, they need to see that we are trying to build a better wall.
If you love this game, you love the pursuit of improvement. You are never finished. You are never satisfied.
It is a question you must answer for yourself today.
How much do you love football? How much do you love the job?
Your success depends on the answer.
