Leech Letters - Issue 1
Welcome to the first installment of Leech Letters, where I transform my thoughts and experiences into insights that I hope you'll find valuable.
Habits & Core Values
As we kick off the year, the topic of habits is inevitably on our minds. Recently, I shared on Twitter how crucial it is to anchor habits to your core values for them to be sustainable. You may want to lose weight starting January 1st, but if you don’t have a reason that holds true to your core, then the only thing holding that habit together is the thin willpower of keeping a streak alive
The Power of Writing
I’ve wanted to build a writing habit for a while. I’ve thought about starting my own journal and whatnot, but never had a strong reason to do so. I never felt strongly compelled to put my thoughts to paper on a consistent basis. That changed with the birth of my son in August.
In 2017, my father passed away, leaving behind a few journals. They weren't filled with many entries, but the connection I felt to him through his handwritten words feel so good, even if just for a brief moment.

So, my journaling journey isn't just for me (although I find it therapeutic); it's a legacy for my son. A way for him to feel connected to me, just as I do with my dad still.
Journaling Practices
I advocate for physical handwriting – being a pen and paper kind of guy. The ‘Better Every Day’ Journal has been an excellent way for me to get into writing daily without having the pressure of a blank page staring back at me. Each day, a new question is asked, sometimes heavy, sometimes fun, around a loose theme that lasts the entire month.
This practice of journaling extends to my relationship with my wife as well. We use the 'Agape' app, which presents us with daily questions that we both have to answer. Neither can see the others answer until you've both answered. Whether light-hearted or profound, these questions have opened up new avenues of conversation between us, enriching our relationship.
Leech Letters: A Two-Way Street
And now lastly, there’s Leech Letters. My hope is that this isn’t a one way form of communication. If you resonate with anything, want to share your own thoughts, or just want to connect in general, I’d love nothing more.
Until next week.
