Can I just start off by saying how much I miss watching the old Sportscenter on ESPN? Talk about instant nostalgia! Anyways, I had to settle for the next best thing; scrolling through their Instagram recently. I came across a fascinating reminder about one of lacrosse's more unique rules: when a shot misses the net and goes out of bounds, possession is awarded to the player who’s closest to the ball when it crosses the line. In other words, pure effort gets rewarded. This rule traces back to the roots of the game, when Native Americans played lacrosse with no out-of-bounds. The ball could travel hundreds of yards, and the only way to maintain possession was to chase it down relentlessly. It got me thinking: how often do we see a rule that simply rewards effort? Not skill, not strategy, just the sheer will to go the extra mile, to outwork the competition, and to hustle when it counts the most. It's a reminder that sometimes, success isn't about being the most talented or having the perfect game plan. It's about being the one who's willing to put in that extra effort. So, here’s the challenge: in a world where everyone’s looking for shortcuts and optimized paths, be the one who goes the extra yard. Be the one who sprints after the ball, even when it’s rolling out of bounds. In sports, in training, in life, effort always wins. Keep the Fire Burning, Leech
