Leech Letters - Issue 10
I rarely get sick. We're talking once every few years. But when it does happen, it hits me like a ton of bricks.
I've been battling the flu (and maybe some other things) since Monday night. I've had to take a few half days at work. I'm down 9lbs since last week. All of this to say, I've seen better days!
One rare positive from being this sick is that I have an opportunity to reflect on what's truly important.
Social Media (and screen time in general) is the first thing that I dropped. My phone usage dropped over 30% this week, and that included having more time to potentially be on it at home. With the little energy I had, I did not want to put any of it into comparing myself to others on Instagram or to endless scrolling on Twitter. Makes me wonder why I was even on it so much in the first place...
Reading, Writing, and Exercise are three habits I've had to put on the back burner this week as I looked to get off my deathbed. When healthy, I think it's important to try and do all three of these daily. To build a consistent habit. That way, if the sick bug does come and knock you down, it's not the end of the world to take a few days off before picking those habits back up.
With the limited amount of energy I've had each day, I've tried purposely to be present, available, and helpful to my family. To waste my limited fuel on anything other than my family would make me feel more sick than the flu itself.
While I'm not thankful for the flu, I'm appreciative of the lessons learned. There's always opportunities to become stronger.
